Frequently Asked Questions About Life Coaching
What is life coaching?
One of my favourite definitions of life coaching comes from Julie Kennedy in her paper “A definition of coaching” where she says “Coaching” literally comes from an old Anglo-Saxon word for a carriage, which is something that takes you from where you are now to where you want to be. In a nutshell: Life Coaching is a vehicle to transport you from where you are now in your life to where you want to be. Life Coaching is all about having someone believe in you and encourage you, about getting valuable feedback, about seeing things from new perspectives and setting your sights on new horizons. Every successful athlete and performer today has a coach of some sort. A coach makes coaching available to anyone wanting to achieve their best, in any field. Coaching is not another ‘how to’ course. It is a powerful alliance between two people that produces exceptional results. (Results Coaching Systems, 1998)

How is life coaching different from therapy?
A therapist is trained and licensed to work with diagnosable psychological conditions; a coach is not. People work with therapists to resolve psychological conditions that are rooted in the person’s past. People work with a coach to focus on their current life and create action plans to turn dreams into reality.
What are the ethical standards of life coaching?
As an active member of the International Coach Federation (ICF), I adhere to their code of ethics.
What happens in a coaching session?
The session generally takes place via Skype or phone. As coaching is all about you, your needs, your goals, and your agenda, we discuss your goals, where you are now, where you want to be and how to get there. My role is the active listener who asks you powerful questions in order to help you focus and gain insights to inspire you to action. I champion you to be the best you can be and we look at different perspectives and pathways to self-empowerment.
Why do you coach via Skype or phone?
The people I serve are situated all over the world (Australia, South Africa, Europe etc.) so this is the most efficient way to connect and work together.
How long does it take?
A session usually lasts 1 hour and I have different coaching packages and group programs to meet different needs. Contact me today for your free 30-minute strategy session and find out more.
Is life coaching expensive?
Life coaching is an investment in yourself that costs money. When you understand the value coaching brings to your life compared to the amount invested, you will be the best judge of the expense based on your budget and needs.
